Beginner capoeira classes start September 5. Capoeira is the Brazilian art of movement, music and play — kicks, dodges, acrobatics and rhythm in one. You don't need to be fit, flexible or young. You need one hour and a willingness to move.

One full hour, start to finish. Here is exactly what you walk through — and what you walk out with.

Warm-up, hip mobility, and the ginga — the swaying step every capoeira movement grows from. By the end of the drill you are moving in rhythm without thinking about your feet.

Your first three movements: esquiva to slip a kick, au to move through space, and meia lua de frente, the front crescent kick. Drilled slowly with a partner, at your pace.

You step into the circle, hear the berimbau, and play your first jogo. Plus a simple home practice plan and your options if you want to keep training.
You are not lazy and you are not out of options. You are bored. Treadmills and machine circuits ask nothing of your mind, so your body stops showing up. Capoeira asks for balance, timing, rhythm and nerve — and it gives you a group of people waiting for you in the circle.
You quit every gym membership by month three
Stretching alone has done nothing for your mobility
You want to learn a real skill, not just burn calories
You think you are too old, too stiff or too uncoordinated to start

Capoeira, Boxing and Fitness Coach
Chris has spent his life in disciplines that ask everything of you — the US Army, then the boxing gym, then the roda. His beginners are office workers, parents, retirees and teenagers. Nobody is too stiff, too heavy or too old. You start where you are, and the ginga takes care of the rest.

Minutes in your free first class

I walked in thinking I was too old and way too stiff for this. Coach Chris had me doing the ginga in ten minutes and laughing by the end. I have been back every week since.

The free class sold me. It was not a sales pitch, it was an actual lesson. I left knowing three movements and wanting the fourth.

Beginner, 6 weeks in

I box, so I came for the footwork. I stayed for the music and the roda. Chris explains the culture, not just the kicks — that is rare.

Cross-training from boxing
Capoeira makes you flexible — you do not need to be flexible to start. The ginga does the work over the first few weeks, and every movement is scaled to what your body can do today.
No. Beginners in this class range from teenagers to people in their sixties. You move at your own pace, and nothing in the first class involves being hit or thrown.
Yes. No payment, no card, no commitment. You claim your seat, you train for a full hour, and you decide afterwards whether you want to keep going.
Comfortable clothes you can move in, a water bottle, and bare feet or clean indoor shoes. No equipment and no uniform required for your first class.
That is exactly who this class is built for. Everything starts from zero — stance, base step, one dodge, one kick. You will not be thrown into anything advanced.
